We strive to familiarize retired and active teachers with the benefits of membership in the local, state, and national associations.
Our History
OREA’s roots date back to 1947, when Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus founded the National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA), with the Oregon Retired Educators Association (OREA) organized in 1955 as an NRTA affiliate. Following the NRTA’s merger with AARP in 1982, OREA continued to grow throughout Oregon, reaching 12 active units in 2019 and currently maintaining 8 active units as of 2026.
